It varies depending on the person-but normally a few days. If you want to know if your in ketosis grap a bottle of ketone sticks found normally in the diabetes section of your pharmacy-only cost about $10 for 50. To be blunt, all you do is pee on the stick when your urinating and you can tell by what color it turns if you are in ketosis.

If you are diabetic I plead with you not to do phase 1!!! it is much too restrictive.
These things are too individual to be answered. It will take your bod however long it takes to go into Ketosis!!
I live on phase 2 very happily. I am losing weight on a schedule of 1 pound every 2 weeks. That makes me happy. It is very slow, but it is happening!! Even with insulin injections it is happening!!!

The Induction Phase is a two week period of eating almost pure protein and some fats. This part of the diet is designed to begin the process of “Ketosis” in you body. According to Atkins diet plan information, this is a natural body process where you burn off the fats stored in your own body instead of using carbohydrates for fuel. It also uses more energy to burn the fuel from your own body, speeding weight loss.

As soon as your body has used up all it’s glucose for energy given from the carbs you usually eat then your body will turn to the stored fat for energy which puts you in ketosis. The time is takes to go into ketosis varies for everyone, but for myself it was 2 days after I started induction.

I also agree with the last answer, If you are a diabetic it is not good to go into ketosis. It is way to hard on your body. When your blood sugar is out of controll and you go to the hospital that is one of the first things they test for.
