Why Would The Low Carb Diet Work?

Seriously? Don’t carbs give you energy, which helps you burn fat if you use it properly? I’m positively addicted to carbs, and I’m quite skinny… so how does the low carb diet work for some people?

Problem with carbs is they do give you energy but so does proteins and fats. Fats and proteins are burnt off much more quickly, carbs on the other hand are far more complex and in most cases are stored because our activity level isn’t sufficient to use the carbs effectively. Therefore carbs are stored as fat, high carb diets in inactive people leads to weight gain.

    Uhuh. No way. Dont.
Yes that is true… Carbs give you energy which in turn helps burn fat. I mean all the other nutrients like fat, protein etc do give you energy, but carbohydrates are the pregerred source og energy. But dont stuff yourself with carbs and expect the fat to just melt away.
(By the way, if youre skinny, why would you go on a diet?)…
Umm low carb diets are dangerous too. It causes unusual breakdown of fats. Your body will breakdown the fats into things called ketones. If you dont burn up these ketones with everyday activities / exercise / whatever, they will enter your bloodstream, causes various problems with your cardiovascular system and many other things. Serious cases can put you in a coma, and even kill you. This condition is called ketosis and can be quite dangerous if a low carb diet is sustained over a long period of time.
The reason why diets work differently for each person is because each persons body burns certain nutrients easier than others. Also, they may be taller (burning more calories), shorter (burning less calories), fatter (easier to see results…) or skinnier (harder to see results).
Honestly, people should just go on a healthy diet. The formula to lose weight is to eat less calories than you burn.
Eat plenty of fibrous foods such as grains and wholemeal/high fibre bread, beans etc. Dont forget veggies as they are low in calories but high in nutrients.
Never limit fat intake. We all need fat in our diet for various uses…
So yeah. Eat healthy, exercise plenty and you should be alright =]

eating low or no carbs puts you body into “starvation mode” so when you eat fat, since your body has no carbs to burn for energy, it burns the fat instead. I did a low carb diet once, and I lost weight, but had so many terrible side effects I had to stop. It made me tired all the time, made me sweat a lot and smelled really bad, i was always dehydrated and my hair and skin got really dull and dry. As soon as I stopped the diet I gained back all the weight I lost. Worst diet ever!

ive read every book on the subject. Carbs are your immediate fuel source, if you take them away, your body has to use stored body fat for fuel…………….its really simple. It is called Ketosis
