Low carb diets are the way to go. Most carbohydrates we eat are in the form of grain products. Grains DO make you gain weight. (Grains are used to fatten animals before they are slaughtered and they will fatten you up too!) and even whole grains are not the health foods we are told they are.
The only good carbohydrates are fruits and veges and if you stick to those and to lean (preferably wild or grass and range fed) meats and fish you will not only lose weight but will be MUCH healthier.
I have a lot of info on this on my website: http://www.physicians-weight-loss-tips.c…
As for skipping a meal, it may make you gain weight if you get hungry as a result and end up eating a lot at your next meal.
The best way to eat for weight loss is to eat 6 small meals a day rather than a couple of large ones. Eating 6 small meals will reduce the amount of insulin your pancreas secretes in response to your food intake. Insulin is a hormone that stimulates fat synthesis and inhibits the breakdown of fat so reducing insulin levels will help you lose weight.

JP is correct, if you skip a meal you’re more likely to overeat later. Also though, your body assumes that a famine has started and starts clinging to the fat it has, making you less likely to metabolise the fat as energy and hence lose weight.
Low carb diets are not necessarily bad. Carbs are your body’s first source of energy. When there are no carbs, your body switches to burning fat for energy. That being said, it is still important to eat enough food so your body doesn’t go into starvation-mode, and remeber to eat healthy things like heaps of fruits and veges.
Good luck!
all protein diets are not good for you! Your body needs all 3 macro-nutrients to survive — carbohydrates, protein and fat. If you cut out one of those macro-nutrients your body will not function properly and eventually break down.
Eat whole, naturally occuring foods. Nothing processed, packaged or anything with added sugar, salt, artificial sweetners or preservatives.

I was on a low carb diet a few months ago and it was the worst time of my life!
I ended up eating the same thing every day for the full week, but at the week-ends i would binge on all the carb ridden foods i’d been denying myself! It went on life this for a couple of weeks until I decided just to eat healthy and exercise!
I honestly feel a million times better now!

I’m not sure about your first question, but the second is yes because if you skip a meal, you are more likely to overeat later in the day. Which of course, causes weight gain.
Anytime the topic
of discussion in my blogs, articles or newsletters has turned to my own
personal grocery shopping list, there has always been a spike in interest.
The phrase, "negative
calorie food", as highlighted in negative calorie diet programs and
books, usually refers to foods that allegedly require more energy to digest
than they contain. Since the process of digestion requires the use of
calories for energy, sometimes the net amount of metabolizable energy
available from a food is less than the gross number of calories contained
in the food.
By now, most people
realize that adding lean muscle mass to your body does wonders for your
metabolism and fat loss, as well as a host of other benefits that allow
you to live out your life as healthy as possible.
In order to reap the
benefits from the intense exercise I recommend to my Fat Burning Furnace
students, you must get adequate rest. I cant stress this fact enough.
In fact, rest is just as important, if not more important that the actual
exercise.
