Ok..which Is It….low Calorie, Low Carb. Or Low Fat Diets…i Have So Many Question?
I just started working out at the gym. I want to loose about 15 pounds before summer..There are soooo many different diets out there and I dont know which one to follow..I have tried the Atkins and I NEVER want to see another egg or hamburger patty again in my life.. It worked but I hate the food that you have to eat ALL THE TIME. So should I count calories, fat, or carbs? How long per day should I work out so it is effective? Is morning or night better to work out?
I am 29 yrs old
I guess if you had to choose one, it would have to be calories. The only way to actually lose body fat is to have the amount of calories that your body needs exceed the amount of calories that your body takes in.
The key to sustainable weight loss is to make changes to your lifestyle and diet that are sustainable and permanent. Diets like the Atkins diet don’t work because people get sick of them, stop doing them, and then go back to their old eating habits.
Your best bet is to get in touch with a personal trainer at your gym and see if they can put together an eating plan for you. A healthy diet should be centered around complex carbohydrates, lean meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, and skim dairy products. Eating healthy and exercising with a focus on the long term and making changes to your lifestyle is the only way to ensure that the weight you lose will stay off.
Found out your family doctor can tell from your recent medical history what is right. Also mine has told me the calories are the biggest issue (his opinion, many people argue with that). He also said you hit a wall where you won’t lose any weight after a while because the body becomes immune to the diet. He recommended shocking the digestive system by eating something that you are staying away from (burgers, fries, shakes… he said think of it as a reward). That way you can cycle back to the diet. Variety was something he stressed also being that the #1 people quit diets is because of the groundhog day effect it has on you.

Low carb diets are ALSO low calorie.
Low carb diets damage your kidneys.
Lowering your fat intake is good for your heart health, but what really matters when losing weight is cutting calories overall, while also getting optimal nutrition.
I suggest getting cookbooks and nutrition books written by Dr. Andrew Weil. He is pretty awesome and easy to understand. Check your library if you can’t afford them at the bookstore.
My husband and I have lost nearly 70 pounds in the last year by not dieting at all!
How? Hint: LOWER carbs (not low carbs)
We thought about things logically and realized that dieting just won’t work. It involves denial and no one can sustain that for a lifetime. So, while there may be some weight loss for a while, it won’t last.
The solution is to change how you eat now slightly–and mathematically–that will guarantee you lose weight. You still need to eat foods you love. But you choose whether you reduce portions, substitute lower-carb alternatives, or forego less-desirable treats for the foods you can’t live without.
Mathematically, if you reduce your overall carb intake (even slightly), you will lose weight!
Why are the majority of the people who want to lose weigh obsessed with diets? What works and what doesn’t – LIFESTYLE CHANGES are what you need to do. YES, the diets will help you lose weight, sometimes quickly, and effectively, but as soon as you stop living on this restricted diet, you will put it ALL back on and probably more. It’s time for people to start learning about nutrition and proper exercise. By the way after 30 minutes of cardio, your body is generally burning fat. You should aim for about 45 minutes (build up to this time), but there is not much point in going over 60 minutes at a time. Night or morning is not so much what makes the difference in when to work out – it has to do with when you consume your meals. Metabolism will be running higher after a workout so workout before you eat.
Everyone says carbs are bad. Wrong! You need carbs. Don’t over do it, but eat some carbs. Things like pasta (you can find whole grain pasta at a grocery store) is good for you. You need some fats. The fats that are in olive oil are great. (The mono…whatever they’re called). The fat in nuts (peanuts, almonds, etc) is good for you too. Evening is better to work out. It’s best after dinner. (That way you work off the calories of the dinner). But if you eat a late dinner, don’t go to the gym because it takes your body longer to close down so you can sleep.
Okay, counting calories is way better than anything else that I have tried out there so far! You can eat what you want but as long as you watch your portion size, you are still in control.
Workout at least 30-45 minutes to see results and anytime is a good time to workout as long as you do it!
Good Luck!!
I don’t mean to be too crazy, but I absolutely believe that Weight Watchers (you can do it online if you just have 10-15pd to lose and it’s cheap) is awesome. I have done every diet there is (I am not kidding) and now I have been using WW on and off for years. It really does teach you how to eat and how much and allows for days when you want a piece of pizza or some chips. At 41, I am the fittest I have ever been and feel better than I did when I was 25. Throw in some cardio and you will have those 15 pds gone in 6 weeks or less. Good luck!!
