Low Carb & High Protein Diet….?
Can someone please give me good tips on a low carb high protein diet? I don’t want to cut out all the carbs, but lower my intake and eat high protein foods… Can someone please give me some examples of high protein foods?
maybe you should look at south beach it focuses on good carbs but like any good diet everything in moderation. You can even start in phase 2 if you want to and still lose weight.
Try beans, egg whites, turkey breast, almonds, oatmeal
The best tip I can give you is not to do it.
Any diet that tells you carrots, corn, and apples are bad for you, while at the same time telling you that bacon and burgers are good, it an amazingly horrible diet. That’s just common sense. I’ll put it this way… nobody ever got fat on rice.
Also, protein is broken down and digested with the help of calcium. The more protein you eat, the more calcium you’ll need to eat as well. If you don’t have enough, your body will take calcium from your bones, and you’ll be setting yourself up for degenerative bone diseases later in life.
The whole point of Atkins and other high protein diets are to force your body into ketosis… sounds mystical right. Guess what… ketosis is a toxic body state. It only happens when you’re doing something wrong.
Everyone knows what a sensible diet is, the problem is sticking to it.
Half of your plate should be filled with vegetables… period. The other half should be a mix of grains (like brown rice) and lean proteins (like beans, fish). Have a piece of fruit for dessert, and have water or tea for your drink. I’m not saying you should be a robot and only eat good, but the majority of things you eat should be healthy, natural foods.
Eat lots of these…
vegetables
fruits
grains (whole grains, not refined like white bread and white rice)
lean proteins
nuts/seeds (in moderation)
Eat less of these…
dairy (only consume fat-free dairy)
eggs (especially if you have high cholesterol)
oils (use in moderation)
pre-packaged foods
Eat none of these…
fast food
red meat
look at http://www.atkins.com – i know you don’t want to fully cut out carbs but there are some really good ideas and recipees there.
Don’t do the low carb thing! It is so bad for you and it makes you feel like crap. I’ve tried it.
I focus on lean proteins like chicken and fish. My favorite snack is an apple with peanut butter. There are 7-8g of protein in a serving of peanut butter!! Plus it’s great to just eat it off the spoon too! Whole grains are a big part of my diet also. Raspberries and blueberries are great and salads made with baby spinach are good and good for you.
I use the Health Tracker at Prevention.com. You can log in your food for the day and it will keep track of your calories, fat, carbs, and protein. It’s a great tool and it keeps you motivated. Check it out.
