Why Does A Low-carb Diet Cause Dehydration?
Probably because it means you need to increase your intake of protein, which uses much more water to digest and process.
So just drink more water.
Drink more water ANYWAY until your pee is light yellow in color and you don’t feel tired from dehydration.
Don’t drink diuretics such as coffee, coke, tea, alcohol, etc. which make you even more dehydated.
Low carbing is a natural diuretic.
The first week switching from a high carb diet to a low carb diet you deplete your glycogen stores first. The glycogen stores hold 3x their weight in water (like sponges) so the first week weight loss is just water weight.
Adding sea salt & potassium is suggested to be added to a low carb way of eating. Half an avocado a day is perfect addition. Your body eventually adjusts but it’s imperative to keep fully hydrated during weight loss. I would suggest to anyone on a low carb way of eating to buy a salt substitute (NuSalt NoSalt) which is potassium chloride and a cheaper potassium supplement.
